Hebrew Letters as Numbers

Hebrew Letters as NumbersEvery letter in the Hebrew "alefbet" contains a numeric value. These work much like the roman numerals, with a letter having a specific number assigned. A table is available to match the numbers to the letter, with values ranging from 1-10, then in increments of 10 and 100's.

These numbers are written according to the value of the letter, and can be in any order. The numbers are generally written with the least number of letters, and the highest numerical value written first. In Hebrew, this would mean the largest number would be to the right, since the writing system is written right to left.

Each of the numbers can be written in mixed form, as the end total is what is important. For example, creating the number 13 could be made by combining 10+3, 9+4, or 7+6, etc.

This method of incorporating letters with numeric value creates a window for finding hidden meanings and mystery within the Hebrew language.
